Best Practice

The National Carpet Cleaners Association promotes best practice in all aspects of running a cleaning business. Our members must fulfil many requirements before being recognised as professional cleaning companies and becoming eligible to trade under the NCCA name. Best practice is promoted to our members through various means, including:

PAS 86: 2008

PAS 86: 2008 - Professional inspection, maintenance, cleaning and restoration of textile floor coverings - Code of Practice.

This Publicly Available Specification (PAS) has been developed by the National Carpet Cleaners Association in collaboration with BSI British Standards and with input from industry experts from all relevant sectors of the cleaning industry. PAS86 is the only government recognised code of practice for professional carpet cleaning.

The PAS is intended for use by the cleaning industry, however it is also relevant to government bodies, trading standards, the insurance industry, carpet manufacturers, consumers, retailers, training bodies and those involved in the management, cleaning and inspection of textile floor coverings. The PAS is applicable to all types and styles of textile floor coverings within the domestic and commercial environments.

When considering employing a professional carpet cleaner, consumers should ensure companies and technicians are committed to following PAS86 Code of Practice. Most NCCA members have already adopted the PAS as their official guide to professional carpet cleaning and the Association has future plans to develop the code in to a full British Standard, with the ultimate goal of PAS86 becoming a mandatory standard for carpet cleaning.

NCCA Courses are widely recognised within and outside of the cleaning industry. Our training provides technicians of any experience level with a complete overview of the chosen subject matter and in all cases promotes best practice. As an unbiased organisation, we can also ensure members are provided with comprehensive advice and accurate solutions they can then apply to their own working procedures.

Our entry level Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning training is the fundamental course for anyone entering the industry. It provides the technician with the knowledge to begin or continue cleaning carpets and soft furnishings with competence and confidence.

Our advanced Spot and Stain Removal courses provide technicians with a complete understanding of the identification, treatment and removal of stains. The knowledge gained through this training provides members with the skills and qualification to develop in to experts in their field.

Our Hard Floor Cleaning and other courses provide members with the opportunity to expand their services with consistent professionalism, ensuring they can deal with even the most specialist situations.

The NCCA runs educational events throughout the year to provide members with the latest industry information on methods, products and regulations. These include roadshows, seminars, hands-on technical days, and meetings, allowing members to network and discuss the latest industry innovations.

Every year the Association also runs the Carpet Cleaners Carnival, a family friendly day and one of the biggest industry-specific events in the UK.

Every NCCA member receives our monthly magazine, Newslink. The publication includes the latest industry news and articles from experts in all fields related to running a flooring and soft furnishing cleaning business.

The NCCA website has a specific area only accessible to Full Members of the Association. The Members Area features many helpful and informative resources and is regularly updated to keep members fully up to date with NCCA activity and development.
